crash/runtime_error: Could not watch events for /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0

Waybar regularly crashes for me when returning from suspend. Error message:

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
  what():  Could not watch events for /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0

The directory /sys/class/power_supply/BAT0 does exist.

Let me know what else I can do to debug.
