Translation Policy & Compliance Summary

Source checked: Martin Fowler FAQ, "Can I translate one of your web articles?" and related FAQ entries.

Findings

  1. Translation and republication are allowed. Martin Fowler states that he does not object to people translating his web articles and posting those translations on their own site.

  2. Obligations and limitations.

    • A translation must include a link to the original article so readers can consult the source.
    • Republishing original English articles is generally not allowed; the site prefers linking to the original page.
    • Illustrations, diagrams, photos, and similar assets may be used with attribution, a link to the original article, and an indication of changes if any were made.

  3. Backlinks from martinfowler.com to translations. Fowler says that, with very few exceptions, he will not link from his site to third-party translations because he cannot verify translation quality or keep checking that translations remain appropriate.
