Cultures

The 198 cultural positions in this world are built from the operating logic of living cultures - their constitutions, their defining historical moments, their load-bearing symbols.

This world does not reproduce those cultures. It follows the pressure each one exerts, wherever that pressure leads.

The pieces and their sources

The historical pieces each draw on public record: the Gdansk shipyard strike of 1980, the Althing's founding in 930, the Baltic Chain of 1989, the Singing Revolution, Charter 77, the Carnation Revolution, the Easter Rising, the Dayton Agreement, the Lateran Treaty, the Prespa Agreement, the Declaration of Independence of Kosovo 2008, Ukraine's EU membership application 2022. These are events with extensive documentary and scholarly record.

The cultural positions - what each culture holds, orders, and loses - are interpretive constructions. They are not ethnographic claims. They are designed to create productive pressure on whoever enters the room.

Schleswig-Holstein

The Schleswig-Holstein position is a region position, not a national one. It reflects the specific dual character of the Danish-German border region - the plebiscites of 1920, the two national systems carried simultaneously, the Frisian presence that belongs fully to neither. It is included because the position is structurally distinct from either of its neighbouring national positions.

The Cultures world claims no intellectual property in any of the cultures, historical events, symbols, or national identities it draws on - only in the method of their application.
