Piece: The Photograph

What the season looks like from outside.

Place

Everywhere the season is represented publicly. The ceremony. The festival. The market stall.

Load Bearing

Without it the gap between who is named and who is present has no form. process_the_crowning and process_the_cut run simultaneously. The photograph shows one of them. Remove it and the concealment has no surface.

Apparent

A photograph. Regional minister-president. Asparagus Queen in her crown. First stalks of the season held upright, white, unblemished. The field may be visible in the background. The Harvest Helpers who cut those stalks this morning are not in it.

Yearbook

The photograph appears each year on the same day the season opens. The faces change - new minister-president, new queen, new stalks. The composition does not change. The Harvest Helper is not in the composition. This has been true since the tradition began. It is not a decision anyone made. It is the shape of the frame.
