Load Bearing

Without it the future has no model that the people who make decisions can actually step inside. The Boknis Eck Time Series shows what happened. The RECOVER Digital Twin will show what will happen — before the decision is made, not after. Remove it and the governance gap between the data and the room where decisions are made has no bridge under construction.

Apparent

Not yet visible as a finished instrument. What is visible now: Sensor prototypes on a workbench in Kiel. Code running on university servers. A participatory platform in early design. Microalgae samples in laboratory containers — the organisms the whole instrument is being built around. Meetings. Both sides of the border. Farmers. Fisheries managers. Municipal planners. The questions they are being asked: what would you need to see to make a different decision? The answers: being built into the platform. 2028: delivery. Not yet.

Yearbook

The Phytoplankton have been sending the signal for decades. Bloom timing shifted. Species composition shifted toward the toxic. Biomass doubled over a century. The signal was in the data. It was not in a language policymakers could act on.

October 2025: RECOVER begins. The project is the first instrument built specifically to translate what the algae know into the language of decision. The phytoplankton are the instrument. They do not know this. They are simply blooming.

2028: delivery. Sensors. AI models. Interactive platform. The Yearbook is still accumulating.
