Project: Baltic Sea Research Persona: The Scientist
The sample is on the bench. The measurement is taken. The number enters the dataset. The dataset enters the analysis. The analysis enters the report. The report enters the decision room. Each step is correct. Each step is a loss.
Toward legibility. The signal moves from the sea to the room where decisions are made. It becomes more legible at every step. It becomes less present at every step. By the time it arrives it can be read. It cannot be felt.
The gap between measurement and felt understanding. Specifically: the moment on the deck when the bottles come up and the water is briefly present before it becomes a number. That moment is the signal the Translation was built to carry. It does not survive the first step. Remove the gap — put the decision-maker on the deck in August — and the decision arrives differently. The lever is the distance the Translation cannot close.
The report is on the table. The data is precise. The recommendation is clear. The decision-maker reads it. They understand it. They do not feel it. They decide from inside that gap.
