The fluency nobody asked for. The ability to read the room before the room knows what it is doing. The sound of the door. The weight of the morning. The surface of the kitchen. All of it legible. None of it chosen.
Read everything. Adjust before it becomes necessary to adjust. Hold the room together so the room does not have to feel what the room is actually feeling. The position does not explain that this is also why the room never learns to hold itself.
The not-knowing. They were certain that once they understood what was happening they would be able to stop it. The understanding arrived. It did not bring stopping with it. The fluency is now permanent. There is no room they can stand in without reading it. That is not a skill anymore. That is a condition.
On the loss of not-knowing - keeps reading. Arranges the evening around the sound of the door. Does not say this is what they are doing. The position requires the silence about the reading as much as it requires the reading itself.
