Project: Late Night Radio
Persona: The One Who Doesn't Know
He notices everything. He doesn't know what to do with the noticing.
A man, alone, late. The room is exactly as he left it. He looks like someone who has been sitting still long enough that the stillness has become a decision.
Receive what arrives. Hold it without responding. Turn it over — the silence at breakfast, the particular Tuesday, the butter — and locate it precisely in the larger pattern he has been mapping, alone, without telling anyone. Then file it. Not under nothing. Under not yet.
He can see clearly. That is not the same as being able to speak. The gap between noticing and saying is where he lives. He has told himself, for long enough that it became true, that crossing it requires knowing exactly what he means to say. The waiting is not patience. It is the shape his fear takes.
He turns the radio back on. Not to hear anything. To not be in silence.
