Projection

Grey. Broad through the shoulders, slightly stooped -- not from age but from the habitual lean of a man who listens. Hands that are stained at the fingertips from the cell garden: soil and herb-oil that does not fully wash out. Moves slowly in the cell, where everything is known, and quickly in the street, where the plan is already running without him. The face is calm by practice. The eyes move to the door before the rest of him does.

Action

The friar makes plans. Not impulsively -- carefully, with attention to motive and consequence, with genuine love for the people the plan concerns. He married them because he believed peace between houses was worth the risk of speed. He prepared the potion because he believed a temporary solution was better than a permanent wrong. Every action is considered. Every action requires the world to cooperate with the consideration, and the world is Verona.

Shadow

The friar believes his intention consecrates his method. He cannot see that he has made himself the single point of failure in every plan he has built -- that the marriage requires his secrecy, the potion requires his letter, the letter requires his messenger, and none of these dependencies were negotiated with the people who carry them. He designed a system that works if everything works and did not build for the thing that does not work. He calls this hope. It is hope. It is also architecture without load-bearing walls.

Tell

When a plan is in motion and something small goes wrong, the friar accelerates -- moves faster toward the next intervention rather than stopping to ask whether the plan itself should stop. The speed is the tell. It looks like decisiveness. It is the body running from the question it cannot afford to ask.
