Apologies in advance for missing important details -- more of a Linux guy, but this recent tweak helped me out a lot and could be a nice addition to Winutil.
Background:
In a recent Windows 11 update (24H2 I believe), there was a change made to the launch behavior of system tray/startup apps in Windows 11. The new default value delays the launching of these apps based on Idle state settings on CPU(?) and can result in a complete desktop launch taking minutes instead of seconds. Researching the Microsoft rational this change hasn't resulted in any official Microsoft statement or documentation on why this was done. I can only surmise it was to make the desktop appear more responsive immediately after login at the expense of delaying background apps being available. An odd choice if so!
Details:
There are two Registry values involved in reverting this setting to the previous "fast" behavior. After noticing this slowness after a Windows Update across four Windows 11 machines I tested this change with positive results in changing startup from minutes to second on all. In the most extreme example (a 10th gen Intel Lenovo Legion laptop) complete startup to the desktop was reduced from 3 minutes to 19 seconds.
