  • Reworked the local course library and lesson shell as a quiet, editorial learning interface with accessible pastel color roles, lesson-first hierarchy, explicit navigation states, compact course contents below 992px, and visually consistent sandbox controls. The course shell now reflows at 320px without putting the full lesson list ahead of the active lesson.
  • Reframed the local collection home as a product-general, status-first course library. Available courses now lead the page, planned AI courses are subordinate roadmap content, and the visible display name is Explorables while lowercase technical identifiers remain stable.
  • Added an explicit, persistent light/dark theme control to the course library and lesson shell, including live theme synchronization into already-mounted sandboxed explorables. Retuned the dark pastel roles, restored the library hero and local-data notice to the full responsive content width, and corrected title casing while preserving the lowercase explorables wordmark.
  • Retained Node.js 24/pnpm 11 as the default toolchain while adding an enforced, CI-tested compatibility floor of Node.js 22.22.2 and pnpm 10.26.0.
  • Refreshed the planned Inside DeepSeek course through DeepSeek V4 Pro/Flash while retaining V3/R1 as lineage, and refreshed Inside GLM through GLM 5.2 while retaining GLM 5 as the available architecture/post-training lineage. The revised briefs add hybrid long-context attention, mHC, Muon, mixed precision and policy consolidation for DeepSeek, plus DSA/IndexShare, multi-token prediction, serving ablations, and long-horizon evaluation for GLM.
  • Recorded exact reviewed official model-artifact commits, report revisions, and code/weight licence signals for DeepSeek V4 and GLM 5.2 in the candidate source register without misrepresenting them as immutable course-local source freezes.
  • Accepted the source-grounded 3D Model Atlas boundary in ADR 0009 and verified a bounded Three.js scene can be bundled without relaxing the existing opaque-origin iframe, CSP, or network prohibition.
  • Added the first learner-facing Model Atlas pilot to the tiny-Transformer capstone: six selectable 3D stages stay synchronized with a complete semantic outline and exact executable forward-pass tensors, with explicit evidence and WebGL fallback language.
  • Extracted @explorables/model-atlas with strict inert descriptor and trace schemas, bounded scene budgets, cross-reference checks, provenance labels, semantic stage controls, tensor-table fallback, WebGL context-loss handling, and deterministic renderer cleanup. Course validation now recognizes and validates model-atlas configs.
  • Added evidence-aware comparison mode and a pinned GPT-2 small baseline from OpenAI's implementation commit and 2019 report. Learners can swap models, compare only disclosed structural fields, and see missing claims remain explicitly undisclosed; exact tensor values remain limited to the executable teaching model.
  • Encoded candidate Model Atlas descriptors for DeepSeek V4, Kimi K3, Qwen 3, MiniMax M1, and GLM 5.2 from the repository's reviewed primary-source register. Each view exposes only published mechanisms, carries its reviewed revision, includes an explicit undisclosed/source-freeze boundary, and deliberately omits unfrozen counts and dimensions.
  • Integrated all five frontier-family views into the learner-facing Atlas alongside the exact tiny Transformer and GPT-2 baseline. A shared guided prompt asks learners to identify the changed information path, inspect its evidence label, and recognize which numerical comparisons the incomplete source freeze does not support.
  • Added a published-only GPT lineage: report-derived GPT-1 and GPT-3 configurations complement the GPT-2 code baseline, while GPT-4 presents the technical report's explicit architecture-withholding boundary as an undisclosed interior. Later product names are not used to infer topology.
  • Completed Model Atlas hardening and documentation: the PRD, architecture, authoring guide, course roadmap, changelog, security model, actual catalogue bundle budget, responsive browser interaction, semantic fallback, and full repository checks now cover the feature. Redundant inline runtime source maps were removed after measurement showed they dominated compressed iframe size; compile diagnostics retain source locations.

Current work

The v0.1 runtime MVP remains verified. Course-session continuity now provides a framework-owned resume surface, lesson-level local state for persistent courses, Guided checkpoint resume and confirmed rollback, page-exit flushing, storage-failure messaging, host-neutral state attributes, shared lifecycle language, and a stable strict development origin. Model Atlas implementation, local hardening, clean-checkout verification, and pull-request CI are complete.

AI from First Principles 0.4.0-foundations.1, Guided Course Mode, Agent Plugins v1 packaging, and the local course-library milestone are implemented. The course UI redesign and its responsive/theme follow-up are complete. The library presents the shared frontier core and DeepSeek, Kimi, Qwen, MiniMax, and GLM specializations as planned rather than runnable. Its DeepSeek and GLM cards now reflect the V4 and 5.2 endpoints. The next implementation increment remains the shared-core source freeze and its five research/comparison lessons, followed by the pinned model-specific courses. External DNS and learner-study evidence also remain.

Decisions

  • The installed global Node 26, pnpm 9, and TypeScript 5 are not used as the compatibility claim. TypeScript 7 remains pinned; Node.js 24/pnpm 11 is the default, and Node.js 22.22.2+/pnpm 10.26.0+ is the tested backward-compatible floor recorded in ADR 0006.
  • The existing Claude preview schema is current; no ADR is needed.
  • The landing page uses the repository's mandated React/Vite stack and GitHub Pages rather than introducing a second site framework or hosted service.
  • Agent Plugins v1 is an additive portable packaging layer. AGENTS.md remains the canonical policy, and no MCP server is added because the local CLI and host capabilities already cover course startup and tutoring.
  • The library manifest is a local allowlist, not a hosted catalogue, remote installer, or filesystem scan. Standalone courses remain the distributable Agent Plugin boundary.

Known external evidence

  • GitHub Pages is configured with build_type: workflow; the course-session build, accessibility checks, artifact verification, and deployment succeeded in Actions run 31896818682.
  • DNS provider access for explorables.ai has not been established. DNS queries currently return no A, AAAA, or www CNAME records. Exact records are in docs/deployment.md.
  • The five-target-learner completion criterion requires a usability study after the runnable vertical slice exists. A feedback record will distinguish this external evidence from implementation acceptance checks.
  • npm packages are structured at version 0.1.0 but are not published by this repository task. The scaffold is verified from the source workspace; external installation of the versioned dependencies begins with the release workflow.

Discovery learning milestone

Implemented on agent/discovery-learning on 17 August 2026:

  • Added opt-in discovery cycles with ordered predict, experiment, apply, and reflect phases and structural validation.
  • Added bounded browser-local prediction/reflection responses, experiment records, selectable baselines, and guided-state v1-to-v2 migration.
  • Extended the sandbox-safe explorable contract with recordExperiment without changing iframe permissions, CSP, network policy, or exercise execution.
  • Converted gradient descent, self-attention, and evaluation leakage into discovery-first pilots and updated the generated-course template.
  • Recorded ADR 0008 and a no-telemetry human playtest protocol. Wider rollout remains contingent on the required five-learner study.

Verification on the current Node 26.7.0/pnpm 11.22.0 shell (which emits the expected unsupported-engine warning because the supported runtime lines are Node 22.22.2+ and Node 24) passed: pnpm check (27 suites/87 tests), pnpm build, pnpm course:test (14 model suites/47 tests and all 14 starter/reference pairs), pnpm test:browser (15 tests including discovery persistence, comparison, download, rollback, narrow layout, sandboxing, and axe), pnpm site:test (2 tests), and a freshly scaffolded discovery-course validation and build. The five-learner study remains external acceptance evidence.
