Mic not working after newest patch (MacOS)

What happened?

I'm on a mac mini base 16gb

mic worked perfectly prior to the update, now it detects it properly in the options menu but the test bar is completely dead (previously worked correctly)

checked multiple mics and same issue. my steam, OS detects the mic properly, barotrauma sees it correctly as well but doesn't work.

Claude says it might be the .NET 8 update that broke it

i tried various workarounds but nothing helped

Reproduction steps

just start the game and go into settings, no matter what i do the mic doesn't pick anything up.
