Connection still failing on firefox with HTTP linkding instances

Greetings! I'm trying to get linkding injector working on firefox with an http (self hosted) instance of linkding.

I noticed issue #39, and even though it is closed, I am still experiencing this behavior. I do not have a trailing slash in the url.

Hey @necanthrope, sorry to hear you are having issues and thank you for doing some research!

Have you tried if the connection works with

1. The official linkding extension (try this first if not)
2. linkding-injector and/or official linkding extension on a chromium-based browser (chrome, chromium, brave, edge, ...)

@Fivefold not the OP, but I also got the same issue and managed to fix it on my end.

In my case I was running linkding with HTTP on the same machine that has Firefox on it. The official linkding extension was connecting successfully. I didn't try it with any chromium-based browser.

What fixed it for me was enabling the Access your data for all websites permission under the Permissions and data menu in the Add-ons Manager on Firefox. Before changing that, I had everything off and allowed only duckduckgo.com.

I also tried to pin point if a specific site permission is required for it to work, but it seems like you need to enable access to all websites.

Can you confirm, @necanthrope, if that fixes it for you?

Thanks for chiming in @SammySame and very good observation. The permissions would certainly explain it. I'm not happy with the access data for all websites permission, but unfortunately it is needed because the domain of the linkding instance can be any domain and the extension can only make requests to domains the extension has permissions for.

The extension does not access data from any pages but the search pages (and should be able to freely block it with the extension permissions for search engines you don't use).
