How to select DSI port as output?

Hi I'm using a PiDisplay touchscreen

Weston loads but nothing shows on the screen:

What particular PiDisplay model are using for this?

TBH I haven't used the PiDisplay for development. Instead of that I've been used a touchscreen connected thought HMII+USB connectors.

For a DSI port display I think you need to do this change [1] in the weston.ini:

Also, could you check if your fleet configuration has the VC4 driver activated?

Define DT overlays -> "vc4-kms-v3d" [1]

Looks like support for the Raspberry Pi DSI 7" screen was added for Pi3 and Pi4

Good finding. What Yocto version is used in Balena stable nowadays?. For example, I see that overlay available for hardknott, honister and so (L52) but is not for dunfell

I was able to get wpe to display on the PiDisplay
had to use:

vc4-kms-v3d
vc4-kms-dsi-7inch
ignore_lcd=1
edt-ft5406

vc4-kms-dsi-7inch and edt-ft5406 overlays were not present but this was fixed in balena-os/balena-raspberrypi#762

Should be available in balenaOS v2.88.21+rev1 and newer versions

This might need more testing wrt to resolutions, inverting displays and also the touchscreen

Nice. We will need a PiDisplay to test it in local at well. Let's keep this issue open as reference to don't forget document and test this setup in the future.

We can get the DSI related overlays to be loaded automatically by adding display_auto_detect=1 in config.txt as documented here

In balenaCloud we can add a custom configuration BALENA_HOST_CONFIG_display_auto_detect=1 to achieve this.
