API error from NppOpenAI

Hi,

I am getting error API error from NppOpenAI indicating an incorrect API key. The message says:

"API Error: Incorrect API key provided: ENTER_YO******************HERE. You can find your API key at https://platform.openai.com/account/api-keys."

How to overcome this issues ? Kindly support & Thanks in advance..

You need to fill out the configuration at Plugins > NppOpenAI > Edit Config.
Take a look at the comments after [INFO].

@princeJoelMathew In more detail: To use NppOpenAI, you need to register an OpenAI (or similar) account.

You can then manage your API keys e.g. in the organization settings.

• Create an API access
• Copy the secret key
• Open the NppOpenAI.ini file via Plugins > NppOpenAI > Edit Config in Notepad++
• Replace the text ENTER_YOUR_OPENAI_API_KEY_HERE with your key
  • You should get a result similar to this:

secret_key=sk-proj-ABC123... [100+ character]

• Save the file

Alternatively, you can use another OpenAI-compatible system, such as Grok (xAI), DeepSeek, or even Ollama.

In this case, you will also need to modify api_url and model.

Here are some examples:

OpenAI (models: https://platform.openai.com/docs/models)

secret_key=sk-proj-...
model=gpt-5-mini
api_url=https://api.openai.com/v1/chat/completions/

Grok (xAI, API keys; models)

secret_key=xai-...

You can even use Groq, which is a free alternative for developers, with multiple models.
