Add support for sparse matrices (+ maybe `Graph` objects?)

Obviously something for much further down the road, but definitely worth considering. (I do believe it's already noted a few times in docstrings as well, particularly in **Performance** sections where more efficient implementations for sparse matrices are mentioned.)
