So, I am sure I have a somewhat odd use cases here but I don't think it is so odd or so out of the spirit of what HA is building here that I don't think it should be mentioned. Please take this as constructive criticism from a user who loves what you are doing for the world.
I am creating a network attached speaker for my bathroom. I specifically do not want a microphone or camera in my bathroom for obvious privacy reasons. So I have a RPiZero2w with a speaker hooked up. And looked at ways of connecting it to HA as a media player. And yes LVA is very over kill for this. I know a million simpler ways to set this up but they would all be for 1 speaker. Because for every other speaker I plan to use LVA type devices (commercial or otherwise). So I thought I'd give it a try.
Just got the Pi setup complete and ESPHome integration came up and said it saw it. Awesome! Very slick. But then it started the Voice Assistant setup automatically. Ok.. I did use LVA after all. But I was hoping to just be able to skip out of it easily. I haven't tried skipping out as there is no clear way to do that. But the first step asking for a wake word allowed skip, cool. Then it immediately started installing the Whisper and Piper addons. And that is where I got sad. No way to stop it nothing. It just kept going. Yes I know how to remove this stuff. I plan to setup separate instances of Piper and Whisper on my server with a GPU when I am ready but not yet. I can handle what I need to do to get it where I want but the average user may not be able to. And I know the goal is to make this more usable for everyone.
I know this is an odd use case but imagine this. Someone buys a Muse Luxe or some other cool future HA compatible speaker but all they want is a speaker, not an assistant. Shouldn't they be able to use it that way? That seem more along the HA way of things. And all it would take is asking what to setup before you set it up.
Just my thoughts. Hope I don't sound too.....whatever. lol Thanks for reading.
