Storage Tool will not let me connect storage link

I can not get the storage tool to connect the storage link to the controller. There doesn't even seem to be an option to do so in the tool's scroll menu. I can unlink but cannot relink. The controller and link are 5 blocks apart and were linked fine before I updated my mod pack. Then I broke the link by accident and now it won't work.

did you right click the controller in that link mode (which by default says unlinking) ? should show controller coords and then right clicking link links it. The storage link still needs to be within controller's range - 15 blocks by default - to link.
