Do not use / promote newsapi.org any longer!

The free developer role is NOT available to any kind of user.
The cheapest option costs 450 USD per MONTH (5400 USD per annum)!

In my opinion, this is just ridiculous pricing for this Indian SAAS company making big bucks from aggregating (free?) news data automatically.

The Developer plan may be used for development and testing in a development environment only, and cannot be used in a staging or production environment (including internally). When the API is used outside of a development environment an upgrade to one of our subscriptions will be required to continue using the API.

I did a little digging of what has changed...

Back in February 2018, it was totally free to use:

Developer $0 totally free, start now
For all non-commercial projects (including open-source and in-development) and live commercial projects with company revenue below $500 per month.
New articles available after 15 minutes
Search articles up to a month old
1,000 requests per day
NewsAPI.org attribution required

In September 2018, it was free for open-source but not anymore for small businesses:

Developer $0 totally free, start now
For all non-commercial projects (including open-source) and in-development commercial projects.
New articles available with 15 minutes delay
NewsAPI.org attribution required

Already in 2020, it was not open for open-source usage; only for test and development of personal or commercial products:

Developer $0 totally free, start now
For all testing and development of personal or commercial projects.
New articles available with 1 hour delay
500 requests per day (was 1000 requests)
No NewsAPI.org attribution required, because you can't use publically.

In 2021, the same, except

100 requests per day

In 2024, it was even more restrictive:

Developer $0 totally free, start now
For development and testing of all project types.
Articles have a 24 hour delay
100 requests per day

You can use a query like "/v2/everything?q=", instead of "/v2/top-headlines?sources=" as described here - https://newsapi.org/docs/endpoints/everything , and in the news selection form like "w3-padding" instead of a drop-down list of news sources that are located on the author's github, which the author himself strongly denies, make a form like "w3-input". Then enter the desired keyword there, by which the news aggregator will search for news. It works, I checked.
