laptop battery has short life

From @jenajordan 6/11/25 (issue #24 ) : "Laptop only lasts 2.5 hrs in field before battery dies (on airplane mode, no other apps open). Presently this allows for ~10 auto dendrometers to have downloads before laptop dies."

KAT response: this is a frustrating problem, one that we tried to deal with shortly after getting the laptop. I can think of a several possible options, in rough order of preference:

• check if Tomst has developed Mac software. then we could use ipads (@jenajordan , perhaps you could do this?)
• look into replacing the laptop (or just its battery). (@teixeirak )
• buy external battery pack (but this is heavy/clunky)
• live with it. Manage as best as we can by planning timing such that we charge it at NEON portal or in lab while eating lunch. But that is a pain, and definitely loses field time.

I have submitted an IT request to see if we can replace laptop, battery, or get an external battery pack.

@jenajordan, we will purchase a replacement battery. I have submitted a purchase request, and once it comes in we will get OCIO to install it for us.

IT spent an hr trying to replace laptop battery but 1 screw won't come out. So they'll Update software. Unless i hear otherwise, we'll head to plot until laptop dies, then i will leave laptop w/IT and they will replace battery on Thurs. Maybe El Or Valentine can pick it up EOD thurs?
