The guidelines' current definition of a MusicLine says it "caracterises the central line of a musical stave." The quantity of lines in a musical staff varied over the centuries. Medieval music, for instance, was sometimes notated on four lines. The modern staff, what Lully used, has five lines. The direction to trace a staff's "central line" could be confusing. On a staff with an even number of lines, what would be the central line? Another option would be to align the MusicLine with the lowest line of a musical staff.
