Hi,

How do I install the latest version of singlerpy in windows without fails?

The only way I could install was pip install singler --only-binary :all: which installs version 0.0.1.

Hm... not easily. We haven't gotten around to building wheels for Windows, it's been on my to-do list but I don't have a Windows machine myself so it's hard to test.

If you know how to build from source, you could try doing that, but there's an entire stack of packages that would also need to be rebuilt, e.g., mattress, knncolle.

So unfortunately, I don't have a good solution for you right now, other than the not-so-helpful "don't use windows." Or perhaps try using the R package, which does have a Windows binary.

After an evening of mild frustration, I can say that it is unlikely that we will be getting Windows wheels in the forseeable future. cibuildwheel uses MSVC for its Windows build, and unfortunately, the compiler seems to have some bugs - mostly relating to the treatment of C++ lambdas. AFAICT my code is valid C++ that is accepted by clang and GCC but is incorrectly rejected by MSVC, which is confirmed by checking some of Microsoft's own bug reports.

I suspect that the problematic patterns will be quite prevalent throughout our C++ codebase. So, "fixing" them would take some time, if I wanted to do it... which I don't, because I don't think it should be my responsibility to change my code to get it to work with Microsoft's buggy software. Perhaps the next MSVC will be appropriately patched and we'd be back in business.

As an aside, we can get functional Windows binaries for the R package because the build system uses GCC via MinGW. Unfortunately, we can't easily do the same for Python because (IIUC) the MinGW binaries would only work with a MinGW-build Python, and almost everyone using Python on Windows would be using the MSVC-built Python.

As @jkanche suggested, WSL is probably the way to go right now.
