Upgrading Frogmouth to latest Textual version

Hello,

I understand that there are some challenges to updating Frogmouth to the latest versions of Textual, and the current solution is to pin the version of textual to 0.53.1. However, if this upgrade isn't undertaken soon, it may become too hard to implement, then Frogmouth stops being useful and fades into irrelevance.

I wouldn't mind helping upgrade the program. What's the next steps for Frogmouth: is it still being supported or is it in the process of being deprecated?

My priority is the core libraries. I'd be happy to accept a new maintainer, if I thought they were sufficiently skilled in Python...

I don't know about being a maintainer right now, but I'd like to try to make a PR to update it.

You're obviously very proud of Hike; I asked about it as a chance to learn more about Hike from its creator. I was hoping you might talk up Hike and its unique features; my intent was not to draw you into "bad-mouthing" another program.

No offense intended - even though I've used github for a long time, I've only recently begun interacting with forums and users here, so I hope you'll chalk up any issues to inexperience.

I'm just gonna chime in, I don't think it is in any way inappropriate or rude to ask for a comparison between Hike and Frogmouth. Its a very reasonable thing to ask. Perhaps the tagging was unnecessary, but there's no need to make them feel like they're being rude for asking about how similar the programs are.

Neither do I; which might be why I never mentioned "rude" so I'd love to encourage you to not imply I did.

A comparison is an entirely reasonable thing to ask; but I'd personally discourage asking it this way.

What is it about how they asked that's not ok? I mean I honestly don't get what the issue is. The tagging was not really cool but the specific question was "I'm guessing 80-90% overlap. Is there something that each of them does better?".

I get that obviously you don't want to start trying to claim that your version is "better" than Frogsmouth. But the fact is, its significantly newer and Frogsmouth is not maintained. The guess in regards to the 80-90% overlap is probably about accurate. Of course there's nothing wrong with saying so if you're really irked by someone suggesting the newer program is "better" than the older unmaintained one. But a question like "how much overlap do these programs have" is entirely reasonable. What is it about that question that bothers you?
