Does desktop application development still credible in this era where everyone shifted to web?

I am a huge fan of tkinter library and started working on it since 2019, where I delivered several freelance project for 2 years, then a short pause and then I heard about customtkinter and I switch to that and develop few more. I am good in making the desktop app but now I am not getting any scope in this domain to monetize or sell my desktop app. Kindly suggest, experts, maintainers as I love creating lovely desktop app.

Hi,
I think that Tkinter and CustomTkinter are valid tools for personal applications, but not much more. I've personally used it for an application at my work that a colleague started. It was a side project with the idea of automating some operations, but then it spread among other colleagues. Python allowed me to build the App quite fast since I've been able to find a library for most of the operations I had to do.
But Python itself has its own limitations, so, for a commercially viable product, I think another language would be more appropriate.
Building an app is really time-consuming, and if it is sold to just 1 person, the price would get out of hand quite fast. I think it is hard to find someone with that budget and who has a specific need not already fulfilled by another service on the Internet.

I think it all depends on the field. Since I’m a programming instructor, I use CustomTkinter to build projects with my students, which can partly be considered a form of monetization. Moreover, I’ve developed desktop applications for some colleagues who teach other subjects. I’ve also designed applications for various domains where some level of automation of routine tasks was required (for example, automatic correction of PDF invoices).
In a way, desktop applications are indeed a fairly niche area. However, what I like about them is that you can independently take a product from zero to a fully finished implementation, while simultaneously learning new libraries and the language itself. Not everything needs a website—such projects consume more memory and often run slower. If I knew C++, I would probably use Qt, but in Python, the CustomTkinter library is an excellent option.
