Problem installing extension in Proton

EDIT: Forgot to mention the OS I'm running and whatnot.

I'm using NixOS on the unstable channel, with JovianOS installed.
The version of WineTricks is "20260125"
The version of ProtonTricks is "1.13.1"
I'm using Proton 9, because that's what's recommended by the MO2 Linux Installer.

I'm trying to install vc2022 in my Fallout: New Vegas Proton prefix. This is to run the mod https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66927. The mod says it requires "Latest Microsoft Visual C++ 2017–2026 Redistributable," and since 2022 is the latest listed in WineTricks it what I used.

Unfortunely, it's not working properly. I start WineTricks using ProtonTricks and get as far as installing VC 2022 when things go wrong.

Wine cannot find the FreeType font library.  To enable Wine to
use TrueType fonts please install a version of FreeType greater than
or equal to 2.0.5.

Can you try with a different wine binary? And/or install freetype. If you need help with that, consult NixOS docs/support.

Great suggestion. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I did install FreeType actually. Before even opening this issue. Should have noted that in the initial post. And also should turn on e-mail notifications.

I think you can just edit the file that is used for installing Wine there.

I have dealt with Nix before, but I can't remember how to do that off the top of my mind.

Maybe look into the derivation documentation for more. :]

If you can't use a different wine binary, I'd suggest filing a bug with NixOS. From the output, I don't see anything suspicious in winetricks itself, though it's not clear to me what error you're seeing?

Can you try in a clean WINEPREFIX (e.g., without fallout installed) and see if vcrun2022 works there? And if it doesn't work, please describe the issue/attach terminal output and/or screenshot if relevant. That may help narrow it down.

I suspect something with the wine binary or a corrupt prefix, though.

Perhaps try the suggested steps and report back what you see if you can indeed re-produce the issue.
