Not detecting messages

The issue

It used to work, I didn't change any settings. After a couple of days, it stopped detecting 2/3rd of the messages. Like I see it blocked three messages yesterday but it also didn't detect (let alone block) 3 other messages.

It's allowed to run in the background and all the permissions are given. Repeated messages are off. These numbers are all prefixed 90850.*

Since it still blocks messages, this option is green, right?

What is your rule for 90850.*? When testing, is the number actually checked by this rule?

It says match found, and when testing it says blocked per rule. The buttons are all green, I haven't changed it. It sometimes works but sometimes it doesn't for some reason.

And when I go to the settings to find the app, without launching it, I see the option to stop it working which means it's not because it's stopped by battery saver (also I haven't enabled battery saver).

The priority is 1, are there any whitelist rules that also have priority 1?

I have a separate 90216.* with call-sms block, notification high, priority 1. I'll give you an update tomorrow to make sure if this is a problem on my side since I discovered that Xiaomi relentlessly blocks background apps, and I have just made some more changes against it. We'll see tomorrow.

Early update. The app says it blocked the message, however, it didn't:

A few minutes earlier, however, it blocked a message successfully by content filters. And 20 minutes earlier, it blocked a 90850.* number succesfully.

Yes, it's Fossify Messages app. I posted it to show that it's in my general inbox.

A bit confused, what did you mean by "it didn't"? It seems blocked to me:

Did the app show a notification for that SMS from ...50981 ? I mean, notification from this app, not from Fossify Messages.

The SpamBlocker app shows that due to the 90850.* blacklist, it blocked the message. However, it actually did not block the message since I can see the message in the inbox of Fossify Messages. It seems like SpamBlocker is lying about blocking the message, to make it clear.

Ah, I see, this is how it works for SMS:

For SMS:
  It takes over the SMS notifications, it only filters the notifications, the spam messages will still be present in the SMS app.
💡 Please turn off the notification permission of the default SMS app in system settings, otherwise there will be double SMS notifications.

Strange. That wasn't my experience. None of the other blocked messages appear in my inbox, including the ones that got blocked by the same 90850.* filter, or content filters. In fact, as I mentioned, it succesfully blocked another 90850.* number's message before this and it wasn't in my inbox.
edit: I just checked again and it recently blocked two messages, one in 18:02, another in 18:17 and they're not in my inbox.

That's really strange. This app is not capable of deleting or modifying messages. All messages should be present in Fossity Messages, that app does have a built-in blocker, maybe some messages are also blocked by it and moved to some spam folder?

Strange indeed. Fossify Messages doesn't have a spam folder, however it has a feature to block a series of numbers like 90850.* but I don't have it enabled -If I did, they would all be blocked, which I don't want since I want to whitelist some of them. I just have a couple of other known spammers blocked in there.

Xiaomi has a "call blocklist" feature but I only enabled it for hidden numbers. It doesn't have a spam database.

Some posibilities I can think of:

• Fossify Messages doesn't show some messages, which seems like a bug.
• Something is blocking SMS messages and trying to hide them, it hides the messages but not the SMS broadcasts, which are still captured by SpamBlocker.

Maybe try a different SMS app to see if messages are still missing
