The feature

This request is, I believe, similar to the SMS bomb option, though that appears geared more for a different use and seems more limited, requiring regex. I propose a setting to silence any/all repeat notifications from the same number/group text within a user-defined time period, without relying on regex. This would primarily be intended to prevent several notifications within a short time when a bunch of people are chatting in a group text.

It's a rare usecase, it will not be an option on the main UI, I'll add a new workflow action "Rule Debouncing", with following options:

• Enable for Call: No
• Enable for SMS: Yes
• Period: 60 seconds
• Rule Description: Friends
• Rule Config: {"isBlacklist": true, "priority": 100}

How it's going to work:

• This workflow will be triggered on incoming SMS, before it's checked by all rules.
• It will gather all recent SMSes that received within 60 seconds, check them with the SMS rule with description Friends.
• If any match is found, it will modify the rule Friends, change isBlacklist -> true, priority -> 100, and description -> Friends (debounced)
• This change is temporary in memory and will not modify the configuration.
• Then, when the rule is actually checked by the Friends, it will be blocked.
• In history log, the block reason will be "Friends (debounced)".

So it's more flexible in this way, both calls and texts can be supported, less user friendly but more developer friendly:)

Sounds good. My concern, and perhaps just because I don't fully understand the rule description matching part of this, is will it be able to work for any group texts, or only pre-defined ones. What made me think of this was the other day somebody sent a group text that I was not a part of already (it was created when they sent it) and that there would be no way to predefine the participants, and then my phone spent the next few minutes blowing up as everybody responded.

Both, that will depend on the rule regex.

• If the rule regex is set to .*(group mode), which matches all groups, then the debouncing will be applied to all groups, including those non-predefined new groups.
• If it's set to a particular group, e.g., the regex is set to friends, then it only targets the group with name "friends", other groups will not be affected.

Sorry, I was wrong about that, I mixed up those two "group" concept, the app is actually incapable of getting MMS group information, see
#266 (comment)

when receiving a group message on my phone, it's alwarys represented as a regular p2p message(flagged as MMS thouth).

It's telco specific, I don't have the environment to develop and test.

It's capable of blocking by number/contact/contact group.
But it doesn't support blocking by mms group, a workaround is to block all numbers with .*, so if any number repeats, it will be blocked. It's not what you want but it's the closest.

It's available in the workflow presets and should work out of the box, see the "SMS Throttling".
