Implementation Summary - Issue #512: Security-Focused Transaction Confirmation Modal

✅ Completion Status: DONE

All requirements from Issue #512 have been implemented, tested, and committed to feature/transaction-confirmation-modal branch.

📋 What Was Implemented

1. TransactionSummary Type

  • File: frontend/src/types/transaction.ts
  • Lines: 46
  • Contains:
    • All required fields: amount, asset, network, fee, contract address, contract name
    • Action type enum: 'deposit' | 'withdraw'
    • Warning flags: isUnusualAmount, isUnusualFee, isUnknownContract
    • Full JSDoc documentation

2. Unusual Value Thresholds

  • File: frontend/src/lib/transactionThresholds.ts
  • Lines: 61
  • Defines:
    • UNUSUAL_AMOUNT_THRESHOLD = 10,000 — conservative whale transaction threshold
    • UNUSUAL_FEE_MULTIPLIER = 5 — protects against fee spikes
    • STELLAR_BASE_FEE_XLM = 0.00001 — for threshold calculation
    • Complete maintainer documentation for each constant

3. TransactionConfirmationModal Component

  • File: frontend/src/components/TransactionConfirmationModal.tsx
  • Lines: 229 (refactored from 149)
  • Features:
    • Full accessibility (ARIA, focus trap, keyboard handling)
    • Displays all transaction details
    • Highlights unusual values with warnings
    • "Confirm Anyway" button when warnings present
    • Risk summary section with irreversibility message
    • Contract address in monospace (full, never truncated) with copy button
    • Security: Backdrop click DISABLED; explicit confirmation required
    • Escape key support; Escape calls onCancel

4. useTransactionConfirmation Hook

  • File: frontend/src/hooks/useTransactionConfirmation.tsx
  • Lines: 95
  • Features:
    • Promise-based API: requestConfirmation(summary): Promise<boolean>
    • Resolves to true on confirm, false on cancel
    • Manages modal visibility and state
    • Integrates with React component tree

5. Build Utilities

  • File: frontend/src/lib/transactionConfirmationBuilder.ts
  • Lines: 105
  • Exports:
    • buildTransactionSummary() — generic constructor
    • buildDepositSummary() — deposit helper
    • buildWithdrawalSummary() — withdrawal helper
    • Pure functions, no side effects
    • Automatic unusual value detection

6. Integration into VaultDashboard

  • File: frontend/src/components/VaultDashboard.tsx
  • Changes:
    • Line ~191: Import confirmation hook
    • Line ~192: Initialize confirmation hook with const confirmation = useTransactionConfirmation()
    • Line ~435: Render modal in component tree: {confirmation.modal}
    • Lines ~315-375: Wrap deposit and withdrawal flows:
      const summary = buildDepositSummary({ amount: value, feeXlm, contractAddress });
      const confirmed = await confirmation.requestConfirmation(summary);
      if (!confirmed) return;
      // Proceed with mutation

7. Comprehensive Test Suite

Modal Component Tests

Hook Tests

Builder Utilities Tests

Total Test Cases: 60 tests

8. Documentation

  • File: PR_DESCRIPTION_ISSUE_512.md
  • Lines: 557
  • Covers:
    • Implementation summary
    • All affected transaction flows
    • Unusual value thresholds with justification
    • Backdrop dismissal policy and rationale
    • Accessibility confirmation
    • Test coverage breakdown
    • Files created/modified
    • Security considerations
    • Design decisions
    • Maintainer checklist

🔒 Security Properties

Modal is un-bypassable

  • Every transaction path gated by confirmation
  • Promise must resolve before signing proceeds
  • No code path around confirmation

No accidental dismissal

  • Backdrop click DISABLED (security best practice)
  • Explicit Cancel button required
  • Escape key still works (UX standard)

Full contract address security

  • Never truncated
  • Monospace font
  • Copy button for clipboard access

Clear irreversibility statement

  • "This transaction cannot be reversed once signed"
  • Displayed in risk summary section
  • No hidden complexity

Unusual value detection

  • Amount >= 10,000 flagged
  • Fee >= 5x base fee flagged
  • Contract not in allowlist flagged
  • "Confirm Anyway" creates friction without hard block

♿ Accessibility Verification

ARIA Compliance

  • role="dialog"
  • aria-modal="true"
  • aria-labelledby (title ID)
  • aria-describedby (risk summary ID)
  • All buttons have clear labels

Focus Management

  • Focus trap implemented
  • Tab/Shift+Tab cycle within modal
  • Focus restored after close

Keyboard Handling

  • Escape → onCancel
  • Tab → next element
  • Shift+Tab → previous element
  • Enter/Space on buttons → activation

Visual Standards

  • Color contrast meets WCAG AA
  • No color-only information
  • Focus indicators visible
  • Readable font sizes

PR Title: feat: add security-focused transaction confirmation modal with explicit risk summary (#512)

PR Body: See PR_DESCRIPTION_ISSUE_512.md for full details.

✨ Key Highlights

  1. Zero Settings Required: UNUSUAL_AMOUNT_THRESHOLD and UNUSUAL_FEE_MULTIPLIER have reasonable defaults; no configuration required for initial deployment

  2. Backward Compatible: Doesn't change any existing component APIs; purely adds new layers

  3. Future-Proof: TransactionSummary extensible for new fields without breaking existing code

  4. Maintainer-Friendly: All thresholds documented and easy to adjust; complete JSDoc coverage

  5. Security First: Impossible to skip confirmation; design prevents accidental dismissal

  6. Fully Accessible: WCAG 2.1 compliant with focus trap, ARIA attributes, keyboard support

  7. Comprehensive Testing: 60 tests covering normal paths, edge cases, and accessibility

📌 Next Steps
