Does not save wallpaper settings on dual monitors.

I have installed the ML4W script, on an Arch based system.

Prepackaged with ML4W is waypaper, which recognizes my dual monitor set-up when selecting wallpapers.

But when I log back in, waypaper sets just one wallpaper to both monitors, or to ‘ALL’ in the settings.

I re-installed waypaper and again, it will not save DP1, DP2 in the waypaper settings but instead reverts to 'ALL'
and again use one wallpaer for both monitors.

Any help is appreciated in adavance.

Could you check what's written in config.ini of waypaper? Ideally, All should not be among monitors

Hers is the config.in. Sometimes I remove the 'All' and when I reboot it comes back, but onky sometimes.
I have also added 'exec-once=waypaper --restore' to autostart. As you can see even if I chose one wallaper per monitor,
it some selects three of them!

I tried to reproduce this issue in various ways and even with these exact settings, but to me it all works correctly after restart.
Also, since nobody else reported anything like this, I think it is again the issue with ML4W. It has it's own scripts to work with wallpapers, and I am worried that they might mess with the settings. If you just do waypaper --restore it cannot change the wallpaper list (as you can see in the main.py). So, I'm afraid it is something else in your system that resets config.

In fact, you can verify that Waypaper behaves correctly if you just set all wallpapers as you want and then run waypaper --restore in the terminal, without rebooting. Nothing should change (maybe your wallpaper for All will flash quickly).

I ran into the same issue with Waypaper.
It seems to only happen when I pick a wallpaper using the "All Monitors" option and then try to set different wallpapers for each monitor afterward, the "All Monitors" wallpaper just keeps sticking around.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open Waypaper.
2. Set a wallpaper for "All Monitors".
3. Then try setting wallpapers individually for each monitor.
4. Restart Hyprland or log out and back in.

What happens

• Both monitors show the same wallpaper (the one from “All Monitors”).

But, If I manually run:

waypaper --restore

after logging in, everything works correctly and the wallpapers load per monitor.

A workaround that I've been implementing is manually editing out the "All" from monitors and it's respective wallpaper.

Thank you for testing! Well, I suspected that something like that can happen on some machines, because basically when it has All in the list of monitors it tries to set a wallpaper for all monitors (and successfully does so), and then immediately changes the wallpaper to something else. Perhaps the second command is somehow stuck in this case (although I have no idea why it works when you run the command manually).

By design, All remains there because you may have, let's say, three monitors and choose a unique wallpaper for one of them. But I guess there should be some kind of algorithm that removes/replaces All if wallpapers for other monitors were selected.

Could you try to put waypaper --restore at a different place in your config? Maybe at the very end so that other processes do not slow it down, I wonder if that has any effect...

I tried moving it to the end of my exec-once but the issue still persists. Also tested with "sleep 5" to make sure its nothing to do with the login times and the issue still persists.

But i also noticed that it actually sets the correct wallpapers for a brief second before applying the ALL config

Seems setting "Monitor = ." sorts it.

regardless of what's set, waypaper sends three commands (on a dual monitor setup) the two for your monitors and then a third that will try and set the first wallpaper to all or a blank monitor

Hyprpaper, or Hyprtoolkit seems to throw a bit of a fit (intermittently), where it'll display the wallpaper for a moment or not at all. Awww handles it fine it seems, just says the outputs are invalid and moves on.

Seems to work for hyprpaper by just setting both monitor and wallpaper to a period. Awww and Hyprpaper sometimes have an error but nothing that has stopped it yet.
