Samsung address book shows all davx5 address books with the same name

App version

• I'm using the latest available DAVx⁵ version.

Android version and device/firmware type

Android 16 (Galaxy S24 Ultra)

Steps to reproduce

1. Sync more than one address book with davx5
2. Go the the default contacts app from Samsung and add a new contact

Actual result

I get asked to chose the address book in which the new contact should be stored. It looks like this:

Expected result

Davx5 should expose meaningful address book names so that I can chose the right one.

Which DAVx5 version do you have in use? It's also a bit weird that you have a "add account" button in this screen. How did you get to this screen?

I wonder whether setting core/src/main/res/xml/sync_contacts.xml android:userVisible="true" would work around the problem (with the trade-off that every single address book would then be visible again in System / Accounts).

I'm also interested in why this only happens for some Samsung devices …

I found that screen now, it is in the Contacts App settings and there is an option to choose the default address book where new items should be assigned to. In this screen it is impossible to distinguish between multiple DAVx5 address books.

So it works in one screen, but doesn't in another? Sounds like a Samsung problem … @schiessle why do you think this is a DAVx5 issue? It works in most contacts apps and the accounts obviously have meaningful names.

Even Samsung Contacts is able to show the account names in one view (but not in the other). Also it's working in Google Contacts and other contacts apps.

Update: core/src/main/res/xml/sync_contacts.xml android:userVisible="true" doesn't help

@rfc2822 I assumed that the contacts app simply shows the "name" which gets exposed by the storage provider, but I might be wrong.

For me it is not only the setting to chose the default address book. Also if I open the contacts app and click on the "+" to add a new contact I get the screenshot I posted initially. I never get a screen similar to what you posted here: #2089 (comment)

I'm using the default contacts app on my Galaxy S26 Ultra. Contacts app version is 16.1.26.9, Android version16, One UI 8.5

As @rfc2822 mentioned the Google contacts app I also installed it, just to test it. Surprisingly the Google contacts app doesn't offer me any of the DavX5 accounts as storage location, only my Google account and a option to add additional Google accounts. 😕

I have converted this to a Discussion. @devvv4ever Can you maybe have another look? If it turns out that we can do something on DAVx5 side, we can create another more specific issue.
