1. Problem Understanding & Domain Insight (10 Points)
This criterion evaluates the demonstration of knowledge regarding fruit fly biology, the PPQ mission, and identified foreign sources of risk.
2. Geospatial Data Use & Analytical Rigor (12 Points)
Assessment focuses on the effective use of geospatial datasets, the application of spatial analysis, and the level of justification and transparency provided for the methodology.
3. Risk & Predictive Indicators (12 Points)
This section requires an evidence-based risk framework that includes specific indicators, identification of high-risk pathways, and strategies for early detection.
4. Data Integration & Use of Provided Sources (10 Points)
Points are awarded for the proper use of provided datasets, ensuring data relevance, and the integration of additional public data.
5. Tool / Application Design (10 Points)
The design should feature a user-friendly interface with functional filters, dynamic visuals, and outputs that are actionable for the user.
6. Visualization Quality & Communication (10 Points)
This evaluates the clarity of visuals, the ability to highlight key patterns, accessible communication of findings, and overall professionalism.
7. Innovation & Value-Added (10 Points)
Credit is given for novel approaches, methods that improve surveillance, scalability of the solution, and creative thinking.
8. Overall Impact & Usefulness (10 Points)
The final assessment looks for better detection capabilities, support for data-driven decisions, operational value, and the potential for the project to be adopted.
