Web interface not currently working

Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I'm trying to use the Delphy web interface to perform some phylodynamic analyses, but I keep getting the following message:

A number of colleagues have also checked to see if this works but they get the same error. Even when I try and manually 'trust' the site I am still unable to access the web interface. I know I can obviously install it on my computer and perform the analyses this way, but I would prefer to still be able to use the web interface and I thought I would flag that other people seem to also be having this issue. In case it helps, I am using a Mac on Safari.

Hi, Gina, thanks for letting us know! Indeed, we had no clue to date: we moved the URL to https://delphy.bio recently, and it has worked fine for all of us (Ubuntu 24.04 Firefox & Chromium, as well as various macOS on Safari and Chrome). We're looking into it now, but if you don't mind, could you send us any details you can gather about the error itself? I suspect there might be something off with the SSL certificate that for some reason only affects some people.

I know you said you'd prefer to not install locally, but if this is blocking you at the moment, a local install is really not too bad. Assuming you have node installed, it goes something like this:

git clone https://github.com/fathominfo/delphy-web.git
cd delphy-web
npm install
npm start
# Navigate to localhost:8000 on a browser

Sorry for the trouble; not sure what's going on there. Could you perhaps try from another network? (i.e. using your phone with wi-fi turned off?) That will help us identify if it's something with your internal network vs the site itself.

The web server is configured properly as far as I can tell, so I think we may be dealing with something intercepting the link (and like the message says, impersonating delphy.bio). Usually when I've seen this in the past, it's because certain domains might be blocked by an institution (i.e. all dot-bio domains). In extremely rare cases, it's more nefarious than that, but more likely you may need to check with your IT folks about allowing the delphy.bio domain. (If you click through past the security message, do you get a blank page or anything else? Or does it just spin?)

Hi, so sorry that I only just saw this! Both working for me now but I also am on a different wifi than when I was getting the error so I'm wondering if it was an issue with Eduroam. Is it helpful for me to check when I'm in the office tomorrow to see if this is a wifi issue?

Hi, Gina, great to hear! If it's not too much trouble, we'd definitely love to know whether either/both domains work on your Eduroam wifi. If you do see the issue again, it would be very helpful to us to get the details of the above error so that we can understand it better.

And more generally, we're always very keen to hear about what does and does not work well in Delphy, especially as we prioritize what future direction to take it in!
