Hi Cal.com team :)
At the moment, the Out-of-Office feature only allows selecting from predefined reasons (vacation, travel, sick, public holiday, or unspecified).
In practice, I often block full days for things like:
- client visits / on-site days
- internal off-site or production days
- protected focus days
- rest / recovery days
From the organiser side this works well, but from the booking page side there is no clear visibility for the person trying to book as to why no times are available. When someone opens my booking link and sees no availability, it can look like the page is broken or that I am simply fully booked, rather than intentionally unavailable.
I currently use the Out-of-Office feature and often select the “Unspecified” option. However, the generic title and the clock emoji feel misleading for cases such as client visits or on-site days. While it is possible to add a note to the OOO entry, this note is not very visible or clear to people viewing the booking page.
In practice, visitors mainly see the predefined label and icon, which does not reflect the real reason the day is blocked.
It would be very helpful if Cal.com supported a short, clearly visible public-facing status or reason when a full day is blocked or an Out-of-Office entry exists (for example: “On a client visit today – back tomorrow”, “On-site day”, or “Rest day”).
This is especially important when a booking link is shared via an email signature, where users expect quick context if no slots are available.
Allowing a custom public status message (or custom OOO reasons) would significantly improve clarity for invitees and reduce confusion when availability is intentionally restricted.
Thanks and really appreciate the product.
