Proposal: reuse websocket connection across multiple services

Hello everyone,

I’d like to suggest some improvements to the WebSocket client to allow different services to reuse the same connection. I’ve already created a pull request for this, but for some reason, no one has responded since the library was taken over by a different team.
Let’s discuss whether these changes are needed.
