Automatically remove font-style="normal"

I think it would be useful to add functionality to the formatter that removes font-style="normal" from a given style to avoid any issues with the formatting, specifically bolding, in styles.

Generally yes.
The problem is that it's only almost always pointless. E.g. in

<group font-style="italic" delimiter=", ">
  <text variable="title"/>
  <text variable="genre" font-style="normal"/>
</group>

it serves a real function (and I think just setting the font-style on title is slightly different as it would render the delimiter in roman font).

Thanks for the input. That's a very edge case.
Are there any specific patterns that we could build tests for? Like if it's inside a group with a font-style on it, don't touch it.
