module jdk.compiler does not "opens com.sun.tools.javac.processing" to unnamed module

on upgrading from java 8 to 17 (openjdk 17.0.12+7), I found virgil failed to work, throwing 'java: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError Unable to make field private...' as described here

bumping lombok to the latest (& excluding from virgil), 1.18.42 has fixed the issue.
