I updated to immich v3.0.1 last saturday. The update went well and it all seemed to work.

However, I now noticed that all HEIC images uploaded afterwards just show "Error loading image", other formats like webp and jpeg are fine.

I can go to one of the error images and download it, the file is fine, it just seems immich can't process HEIC anymore.

I can't find any errors in the journal of the LXC either.

🔄 Steps to reproduce the issue.

• Upgrade immich to v3.0.1 without any errors
• Sync HEIC photos from an iphone
• Look at it in the web-UI

❌ Paste the full error output (if available).

No error mesage anywhere, not during the update or in the journal.

But seems to only occur in proxmox deployments, not in docker setups.

i thought its already fixed in upstream for next version? So wait for next version or regenerate the thumbnails via webui

it occur in docker setups too. My Docker Setup where broken too.

OK so looking through the upstream issue it does appear the evidence is pretty conclusive that it has something to do with how the build is done in the community script. However I'm having some difficulty in determining if this is a libheif thing, a libvips thing, or a Sharp thing.

For what it's worth that thread mentions that libvips 8.18.4 fixes this issue, and we just updated to that yesterday. But possibly owing to the way I've implemented the Sharp build (line 186-206 in the update script) what with all the swapping between ignoring and forcing global libvips, it might be that something is not quite right. There were some changes to the build order that I made but they were reverted for other legit reasons.

I'll go over the sequencing again to make sure it matches what is happening in the Docker build.

There is a 3.0.2 version already out there but for proxmox helper script users still not available. Is this fix part of the new version? I can not find it in the release notes. And how long does it usually take to get a new version provided via proxmox helper scripts?

Well, seeing as the way I test a new release and any changes (in this case looking into changing the build order which is causing tons of problems) involves me going through the whole process, and then restoring the LXC from a backup, it can take some time.

Actually @krolli53 - can you confirm that you have libvips 8.18.4 installed? The easiest way to tell is to run update in your Immich LXC. If it starts to build libvips, then you didn't have it.

I need to know if having that version fixes this issue, because otherwise I've been wasting my time for several hours now.

After updating, you'll need to run a thumbnail gen job.

this comes in verbose mode. But I tried the update command already earlier, I dont know if started to build it back then. Or would it do it all the time again?

OK well that means your libvips is up to date. What if you try regenerating thumbnails for the HEIC images you are unable to load?

I just did a new photo and synched it. Since i have no laptop running. I deleted the photo from my local phone and it still doesn’t show up on my Immich instance. It shows a blacked out pic.
