Freeze in library(summarytools) V1.1.5 on MacOS

Since today April 16, 2026, when I run library(summarytools) in the console of Rstudio, Rstudio freezes and I have to restart R.
Summarytools V 1.1.5
Rstudio Version 2026.01.1+403 (2026.01.1+403)
R R version 4.5.2 (2025-10-31)
MacOS 15.7.4

Can't tell you more than than, sorry.

Thanks for reporting it... To others who have the same issue, pls comment / react so that I can track it and do proper digging. Hopefully it's just a temporary glitch. 🤞

A student of mine is having the same issue: library(summarytools) hangs for minutes and necessitates terminating R.
Reinstalling summarytools did not help.
Summarytools V 1.1.5
Rstudio Version 2026.01.1+403 (2026.01.1+403)
R version 4.5.3 (I think)
MacOS 26...

However, I can't reproduce it with
Summarytools V 1.1.5
Rstudio Version 2026.01.1+403 or 2026.04.0+526
R version 4.5.2
MacOS 26.4

No problems on Windows 11 or Posit Cloud, either.

If anyone would like to dig a bit deeper, here's what could be tried.

If I had the combination of machine / OS version, I'd also try executing, step by step (not sourcing as a whole), the code in the package's zzz.R script

As an extra step, you could look at the logs in one of these locations and share the relevant bits here

• ~/.local/share/rstudio/log (RStudio's logs)
• ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports (.ips files)
