Keyboard takes many minutes to load

When switching to the Kildin Saami keyboard, it takes many minutes (often 10, sometimes as much as 18) before it is loaded. In the meantime, the keyboard area is simply white. It is possible to switch to Gboard to get back to another keyboard, but it does not solve the problem.

Sometimes locking the phone accelerates the process, reducing the loading time to a mere minute or so. The keyboard is then available from the locking screen (when writing the PIN).

The problem is the same using both Divvun-keyboards and Divvun Dev-keyboards

We have tested with a newer phone as well, HONOR Magic7 Lite with Android 15. Here, it loads as expected.

Do you recall if the keyboard used to load faster on the old device?

Trying to determine if recent upgrades/changes introduced this slow loading.

Note however that Android 9 is from 2018 and has not been supported since January 2022. If the device can be upgraded to a newer version of Android, I would do that and re-test.

I will check with Elisabeth who told me about this problem. She has said it is relevant for many users she is in contact with, as they often have old phones and limited possibilities for upgrading them.

Elisabeth says the keyboard used to load quite fast when it (that is, the Kildin Sami mobile keyboard) was first launched. After working well for a while, it started getting slower, but she cannot remember exactly when.

After reinstalling the keyboard now, it apparently opened instantaneously when choosing it. After a phone reboot, it took 2 seconds to open, but then was instantaneous when she switched back and forth between it and other keyboards. She will keep on testing if it gets any slower with time.

Glad to hear the reboot seems to have fixed it! Let me know if it gets slow again.

I will! Do note, though, that is was the reinstallation, not the reboot, that seemed to fix the problem, there might be some sort of problem that accumulates over time, whatever that might be.

Hi! Elisabeth tells me she tested again last night and now the Kildin saami keyboard used four minutes to load/open. The problem is thus not really solved by reinstalling.
