Confirmed that docling-tools models download continues to work if you install docling and pin docling-core to < 2.83.0

Hi @sgottuso-bh! I'm Dosu and I'm helping the IBM Docling team.

This is a known compatibility gap caused by the removal of all legacy modules (docling_core.types.legacy_doc, etc.) in docling-core 2.83.0 via PR #644. The docling package still imported from that module, which caused the ModuleNotFoundError you're seeing.

The fix has already been merged on the docling side:

• PR #3592 (merged June 17) — removed all imports of docling_core.types.legacy_doc from docling/datamodel/document.py and deleted related legacy utilities.
• PR #3649 (merged June 18) — cleaned up remaining legacy references in examples and tests.

To resolve this, update the docling package to its latest version (which includes these fixes). Until a new docling release is published containing those PRs, pinning docling-core<2.83.0 is the correct workaround as you discovered.

Note that conv_result.legacy_document and the legacy export utilities have been completely removed — there is no migration shim; the modern API uses docling_core.types.doc directly [1].
