Using version 4 of MQTTnet but that would mean downgrading

This is not yet planned because version 5 and especially MQTT protocol version 5 as a lot of features and message properties which are not exposed in the managed client and would require a lot of effort for implementation.

Also the features of the managed client are very limited. Please check the samples directory of the repo. There you can see how to reconnect automatically etc. Then you can build your own managed client.

Thank you. The samples recommend using TryPingAsync with a timer to ensure deadlock-free reconnection. If this is used, is there any point in enabling MQTT keep-alive?
