The issue is that the config for the model is: contextWindow: 1048576, maxTokens: 262000, which comes from possibly tad incorrectly parsing https://openrouter.ai/api/v1/models which contains:

For some reason pi uses topProvider for max_competion_tokens but not context_length (see:

pi/packages/ai/scripts/generate-models.ts

contextWindow: model.context_length || 4096,

).

It almost seems intentional but I think it's likely wrong. At the very least using the min of those two would likely make sense (even if it could be tad wasteful).

(verified there's no history explaining / it wasn't done to fix some issue (at least nothing findable))

I think there are following option (happy to contribute):

• take min out of global / top provider
• take top provider always / with fallback to global
• keep as it

I've encountered this error with a few custom provider extensions. My clanker said I can't fix it with a models.json overwrite.

Anything I can do on my own except temporarily patching pi as a local fork ?
