A thought about markdown: it's a refactoring exercise, so the stub is supposed to contain terrible code. I've written this on 2 tracks and I hate doing it. Instead of refactoring bad code, perhaps the stub can contain good Lua code and the task is to translate into Moonscript.

Sure, why not? The repo stays maintained-autonomous since we're both cross-track-reviewers meaning reviews aren't suddenly required. However, you got a second set of eyes if you do want a review on something. :)

Regarding Markdown, that makes a lot of sense. Knowing some Lua is fairly important to working with Moonscript like how you won't get very far in LFE without some exposure to Erlang. That'd be helpful for someone less familiar with Lua like me. I've been playing around with Moonscript more because it's CoffeeScript-like and less because it involves Lua. So putting Lua front and center is a cool idea.
