Workbench: Sync with selected open file

Sometimes it would be helpful, if there would be a feature to automatically navigate the workspace to the currently opened file to not have to manually browse through all the folders and files and look for where it is.
Either a configurable shortcut or a new button to sync the Workbench would be fine or automatically navigate whenever a new file is selected in Geany. If done automatically, there should be a setting to toggle it on and off though.

I know I am raising an old post, but if this is still a concern and wasn't addressed in #1562, I'd be willing to implement it. I am just not sure what is being requested here that isn't part of #1226
If you're still interested in this feature, can you elaborate on what the desired end state is?

Hey, thanks for the note. I think your implemented feature addresses something different than what I initially requested, at least from what I saw in your code. My request was that the selected file tab is visually synchronized with the file in the workspace. This feature is available in other editors like Kate, Eclipse, visual studio and so on, as an example, here's a quick screencap showing it in Kate. You can see the tree view on the left updating when I switch between files.

Thank you for the clarification, I see now how this is unrelated to #1226.

For my own edification:
I understand this request to be to cause the selected tab from the editor pane to highlight the file in the filetree under Workbench's sidebar filetree(possibly with scroll to the file), or a file selected in the Workbench sidebar filetree should focus a tab in the editor (if it is open). This is similar to the geany Documents sidebar existing functionality.

As there is an exemplar for existing functionality, I should be able to reproduce it. It may take me a bit to pick through the geany Document source to figure out how it was done.

Mind you this is only "highlight file"
I haven't figured out how to get the filetree to scroll the highlighted file back into view if there are a lot of files in the tree.
I also haven't looked at getting the filetree to focus a tab on select.

I just wanted to make sure I was heading in the right direction.

I got the scroll_to working and found that the tree selector doesn't have a horizontal scroll context, so on stupidly deep paths, I cannot scroll horizontally to the focused item. Vertically works fine though.

That looks really good! Thanks for your effort. And yeah, vertical scroll is probably only required for really deep trees or narrow side panes which may happen on smaller screens. Not too much of a concern for me personally though.

@b4n Procedural question. If this is approved, is there a process for pulling it into 2.1/2.1.0? I haven't found anything on the geany.org website about the policy for new features in previous releases, but the diffs between 2.1 and 2.1.0 and this pull request are limited to the changes for this request.

As debian and ubuntu are not on track to pull 2.2 in any near future, it may be beneficial to get this change into the 2.1 branch if it is possible.

As neither debian nor ubuntu have backported (combined view available above) 2.1 to stable, I checked for the diff between 2.0/2.0.0 and this release and it would be possible as well, but I would have to make a cherry-pick merge as there was some cleanup done in workbench between 2.0 and 2.1.
