Description

/tasks/by/upcoming is showing all task, that I can access. This is at least in our case not very useful. I can see there a lot of task, which are not relevant for me. Useful would be my own and my assigned tasks.

For the dashboard I can set filter for the upcoming tasks not.

It would be great if I could set a filter in settings.

Even better would be a default user setting, that I can set for all users.

"Upcoming" is a sort of default filter, it was introduced way back in the day before we even had filters.

What makes it clunky to use a saved filter instead?

It would be one solution. However, it does have a few drawbacks:

1. The time filter is very straightforward in ‘Upcoming’. With saved filters, on the other hand, you can’t add additional filters at all.
2. The ‘Upcoming’ menu item is very prominent and would cause confusion for new users. Can it be hidden?
3. You’d have to set up the filter for every new person. That would be a bit of a faff, as the feature is actually very well designed.

In the reminder email, I also get reminders for all the tasks I have access to.

That means I’m currently being reminded of about 200 tasks (I have access to several projects). But I have nothing to do with many of them. From that perspective, at least in our use case the email is pretty useless. which is a bit of a shame, as it’s a brilliant feature.

Maybe a user setting for the scope of this three things (dashboard, upcoming, reminder email) would be a solution.

#3665 will allow unsubscribing from a task, which should disable the reminder notifications for that specific task

For me, the most logical approach would be for "Upcoming Tasks" to display the tasks that need to be completed within the selected time frame.

In other words, tasks that are open, assigned to me, and within the selected time frame.

I would handle subscribed tasks using a checkbox—something like "Show Subscribed Tasks."

The reminder email should remind me of my (assigned) open tasks. I don't think I need to be reminded about the ones I've subscribed to.
