[Feature]: Select Label Template Before Printing Asset Labels #19541

Snipe-IT Version

v8.7.0 build 24424 (gd3be770f25)

How can we help?

I would like to suggest adding support for multiple saved asset label profiles/configurations, with an optional selection step before generating labels.

Currently, Snipe-IT allows administrators to configure the asset label layout from Admin > Settings > Labels, but the saved configuration is effectively global. This works well when an organization uses a single label size and layout, but becomes limiting when different types of assets require different physical label sizes.

Proposed functionality

It would be useful to allow administrators to create and save multiple label profiles based on the existing label settings.

For example:

Large Asset Label
QR code, asset tag, asset name, serial number, company, etc.
Medium Asset Label
QR code, asset tag and asset name.
Small Asset Label
QR code and asset tag only.

Each profile could contain its own label dimensions, layout and visible fields, using the same configuration options that already exist in the current label settings.

Then, when a user clicks Generate Labels, Snipe-IT could optionally display a small dialog or page asking which saved label profile should be used.

For example:

Generate Labels using:

Large Asset Label
Medium Asset Label
Small Asset Label

The administrator should also be able to disable this selection step and define a default profile, so installations that only use one type of label can keep the current workflow without any additional clicks.

Use case

In our organization, we normally use a relatively large asset label because we prefer having useful information directly visible on the device.

However, some assets simply do not have enough physical space for that label.

For those devices, we currently have to print the same large label and manually cut parts of it so that it fits, sometimes trimming very close to the QR code.

Being able to maintain several predefined label profiles would solve this cleanly.

For example, we could use:

the full label for laptops, monitors and larger equipment;
a medium label for smaller devices;
a compact QR + Asset Tag label for devices with very limited space.

This would also avoid having to continuously modify the global label settings depending on what type of asset is being labeled.

Possible UI approach

Under Admin > Settings > Labels, instead of having only one active configuration, there could be a list of saved label profiles:

Large Asset Label
Small Asset Label
Network Equipment Label
etc.

Each profile could be created, edited, duplicated and deleted.

One profile could be marked as the default.

An additional option such as:

“Ask which label profile to use before generating labels”

could enable or disable the selection dialog.

I think this would make the label system significantly more flexible without changing the existing workflow for users who only need a single label configuration.
