Hey! Yes, RTK works great alongside Claude Code that's actually its primary use case. It hooks into Claude Code via a PreToolUse hook that auto-rewrites shell commands like git status → rtk git status, so the agent gets compressed output without you changing anything manually.
It saves 60–90% tokens on common commands like cargo test, git diff, pytest, etc. which means longer context windows and less noise for the model. Practically it translates to Claude staying "on track" deeper into a session.
Install is one line:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rtk-ai/rtk/refs/heads/master/install.sh | sh
rtk init -g
Then restart Claude Code and you're done. Highly recommend it!

Hi There

In README file, RTK is included in headroom as the first class of compression and enbled by default.
However, I'm using headroom for a while, and the RTK filter still 0. Is there something I need to config or anyway that I can see the rtk works in headroom. I did use rtk standalone, and remove completely it when headroom said it is included.
I'm using codex CLI

Another question comes to my mind is - Headroom will compress rtk downtream, that mean the Cache data from headroom already shrunken version of rtk?

Hey @Emixam23 — how is Claude Code scaling on your headroom repo?

Do things start lagging and forcing you into annoying loop-and-reprompt cycles as the code grows, or is it keeping up?
