Does this work with Claude Code launched from Visual Studio Code?

Probably a silly question but I' m stil ltrying to understand if I can use it from VScode and most importantly if I can use it with pro or max membership and not only with API

Yes, you can use Headroom with Claude Code launched from VS Code, but only with an API-key-based account — not with Pro or Max subscriptions.

How it works:

• Headroom's proxy intercepts API requests at the network level
• Claude Code reads ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL env var to know where to send requests
• You set ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=http://127.0.0.1:8787 and ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=sk-ant-dummy
• Headroom forwards the requests to your configured backend (OpenRouter, OpenAI, etc.)

From VS Code specifically:

1. Open VS Code's integrated terminal
2. Run: headroom wrap claude
3. Or manually set the env vars and run claude directly from the terminal

Pro/Max limitation:
Claude Pro and Max use OAuth (browser-based login), not API keys. Headroom intercepts API-key-based HTTP requests, but OAuth sessions talk to Anthropic through a different auth path that bypasses the proxy. You cannot route a Pro/Max session through Headroom.

Bottom line: If you have an Anthropic API key (pay-as-you-go Console account), you can use Headroom with Claude Code in VS Code. If you're on Pro/Max, Headroom cannot intercept those requests — you'd need to switch to an API-key-based account.
