Immediately selecting autocomplete items with keybinding

I have an idea for how to make autocomplete more ergonomic. I want to be able to select an autocomplete item without having to scroll through intermediate items (using ctrl-n and ctrl-p).

Current workflow:

1. Type some characters.
2. Get autocomplete menu popping up and notice that the desired item is 5th (example) on the list.
3. Press ctrl-n five times to select desired item.

Desired workflow:

1. Type some characters.
2. Get autocomplete menu popping up and notice that the desired item is 5th (example) on the list.
   3. Press ctrl-5 to select desired item.

I understand if not everybody wants to bind ctrl- like this, but I think it would be awesome to have that ability.

When I read the title I was honestly worried but this actually seems like a basis of decent idea!
One question that comes to mind though is: what to do with more than 9 (or 10 if we map to the 0 key) suggestions? Could the indices be relative to the current offset in the completion list?

As only 10 items are shown in the autocomplete view at once, I think binding ctrl-num to the absolute position (1-10) of the element is fine. As soon as you want to select an element further down you have to start scrolling anyways.
