Description

The add-on does not support Python 3.14. Is there breaking changes in python or could this be solved with just a version up in configs or something like that?

This will happen if your Linux distribution has modified the Blender package to use the system version of Python (which on newer systems such as Arch is 3.14) instead of the Python version that comes embedded in official Blender releases (which is currently 3.11). Python 3.14 made some backwards-incompatible changes that CAD_Sketcher has not yet been updated for. CAD_Sketcher will work with versions 3.11, 3.12, or 3.13 of Python. Two ways to fix this:

1. Download an official Blender release from blender.org and it will use the embedded Python version to run add-ons. Benefit: simple, no configuration needed. Drawback: you're not using the package from your distribution anymore so it won't auto-update when you run pacman -Syu or apt upgrade.

2. More complicated: Install a Python 3.13 package (e.g. python313 in Arch, but note it's from the AUR), then set up a virtual Python environment (with a command such as virtualenv -p 3.13 path/to/where/you/want/the/venv). Then before running Blender, run source path/to/where/you/want/the/venv/activate which will set up environment variables so that you're running Python 3.13 with any programs you launch from that terminal. Then run Blender. Benefit: you're still using the official version of Blender. Drawback: too complicated to be worth it unless you're already familiar with Python and are used to setting up virtualenvs.

In short, if you're experiencing this issue I recommend downloading an official release of Blender, rather than using the one from your distribution, for now. As of right now, Blender 5.1 is in release candidate mode and will be released in a week or less, so go ahead and grab a copy of 5.1 (and then grab another copy next week) since it's probably got most of the bugs ironed out at this point. But if anything doesn't work, then download Blender 5.0 instead.

I uninstalled the Arch package of Blender and manually installed it from the Blender.org version, and it still errors, saying Python 3.13 isn't compatible with Python 3.11. I verified that I was reading it correctly and that it's not still on Python 3.14. I could install another Python in a venv but I guess I'd rather wait for CAD Sketcher to get upgraded to use 3.14 or higher.

[Update: the Gumroad version doesn't install but the Github repo version works fine.]

I get same error when I install Blender 5.1.0-2 from CachyOS Package installer. But from ARU Packages you can install blender-bin v 5.1.0-1 by HurricanePootis who compiled it using Python 3.11.

Then CAD Sketcher from here Github works fine but not the version from Gumroad which doesn't work with either one.

Also using version download from Blenders own site I have to run it through Distrobox but then I encounter various bugs.

For anyone on Arch,
downloading blender from their website (5.1 or 5.0) works with the github .zip, tho it will NOT work if you have blender installed at the same time from pacman (official repo), or with the gumroad addon.

As stated above the AUR pkgs blender-bin also works with the git.zip

i really hope this get fixed,
those workaround are kind of annoying and sketchy

Same issue on Windows with Blender 5.1.1

This is with the zip downloaded from gumroad. I can't remove the addon from blender because it can't load in the first place.

I tried cloning this repo and adding the path to blender script directories and restarting my computer + blender but still not working. How are other users getting the addon working these days?

I really shouldn't have updated blender from 3.4....

I ended up having the same problem, on Windows and Linux. I tried with Blender v5.1.0 from my distro's own package, then downloaded the official version from the website, version v5.1.2, and it gave the same problem.

I solved it by installing the LTS version, in the current case version v4.5.x

It would be nice to have information somewhere, if you have this problem, resort to the LTS version of the official binary.

I have this problem in windows, had to install blender 4.22 to use the addon. I'm looking for a fix, if I get it working i will post here

Follow up: py_slvs is 3 year old, maybe ask the manteiner to update it?

We no longer use py_slvs, we've switched to the official solvespace binding a while ago: https://pypi.org/project/slvs/
To support 3.14 we need to add the correct files in the wheels/ subfolder of the addon but apprently they have not yet released a 3.14 version of the binding.
